Training starts early and builds on the breed's natural instincts.

One of the interesting things about all pure-bred dogs is that each breed has certain natural traits that you can pretty much count on. Of course, those traits have to be shaped and made productive for the dog to be able to successfully accomplish the tasks it was bred to perform. For instance, retrievers share a natural trait to get things and bring them back; herding dogs have a natural trait to round up and contain critters; and terriers have a natural trait to “go to ground.” But unless the dogs’ natural traits are refined through training, they can evolve into more of a nuisance than a benefit. You don’t want your retriever constantly pestering you to throw a ball or bringing back something you really wish it had left in the field. You don’t want your herding dog herding your grandmother into a corner, and you probably would just as soon not have your terrier turning your back yard into a moonscape of holes dug with incredible speed.

What you do want is a dog who retrieves on command, a herding dog that will reliably bring the cattle home and a terrier who isn’t going to let a little dirt get between it and its varmint quarry. What makes the difference between a dog just doing what comes naturally to its breed and a dog becoming all it can be? Effective training: training that starts in puppyhood, builds on the breeds’ natural instincts and results in a responsible, reliable canine partner. Whether you are training a bona fide working dog, a competition dog, a service dog or just a well-mannered companion for many years to come…the key is training. And there is no better place to start than with our world-famous “Manners in Minutes” program.
